so i realized i haven't really shared any of my school projects with you guys and i thought "no, this will not do, i have to show stuffz"

in my digital media class, we had to choose from various topics like time vs. memory, past present future, love and lust, mythology, etc.

the main critieria was that it was strong in concept.
so i decided to do my own; hurt to heal.
this piece is for all my friends who have done self harm, but one in particular(won't mention her name). i recently found out like over the summer she was in a bad place, bad enough that she had to take meds and from the sound of it even considered suicide. i knew i couldn't do much except listen to her and be there for her, and i would send her positive quotes(you know- like ones from "oh the places you'll go" by dr. seuss) and positive music. she said it helped.
i also did this piece as a sort of promotion for the butterfly project, which is where you draw a butterfly on your arm for every time you think about doing self harm( you can find loads of info all over th internet) and i think it's a wonderful project. you can even draw butterflies on your arm for friends who have done self harm as support. i usually draw four on my arm and have even thought about it as having them for tattoos so that i can show i'll always support and be there for them no matter what.
i hope you guys like it, and i hope for those of you who may relate to this know that i will support you too, and you can message me if you ever want to talk :) i've been told i'm good with listening.

Both the concept and the art here are just beautiful! :happycry: This is the first time I've heard of the butterfly project, but I think it's commendable as well! You've done a great job depicting the whole theme :aww:

Nice job. Unfortunately, even in 2012 there is still a lot of stigma around mental health and often people don't seek help until it's too late. There's no shame in admitting you need help, whether that be therapy or medication. I'm sure your friends appreciate your support.
